Work-life balance usually means answering one email on the couch. In this case, it means being married to the guy who makes the whole plant stop laughing on sight. Same building, same company, one shared home, two completely different universes. At work, he is the top exec with a personal assistant, a reputation for being strict, and a face that makes conversation wilt in the hallway. At home, he is the man who somehow has time to jog and swim but not to listen to how lonely things feel three floors down.

Marriage plus shared workplace already sounds like a bad HR training video. Here it plays like satire. The wife comes back from maternity leave to an entry-level job where half the staff does not know her and the other half now treats her like a walking complaint box with eyes. Lunch invites disappear. Book club invites dry up. Nobody wants to relax around the person whose husband just yanked flexible hours from the coworker with a sick parent.
